Colleen Hoover is known for her emotionally charged romances, but Verity takes a sharp turn into psychological thriller territory—and what a wild ride it is! This book is equal parts disturbing, addictive, and mind-twisting, making it an unforgettable read.
Plot Summary
Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer, is given the opportunity of a lifetime: to finish a bestselling book series after its famous author, Verity Crawford, becomes incapacitated. When Lowen moves into the Crawfords' home to go through Verity’s notes, she stumbles upon an unpublished manuscript—a chilling autobiography filled with dark confessions. As she becomes entangled with Verity’s husband, Jeremy, the lines between truth and fiction blur, leading to a shocking and unsettling climax.
What I Loved
📖 Unputdownable Suspense – From the very first chapter, the tension is relentless. Hoover masterfully builds an eerie atmosphere, making you question everything.
🖋️ Dark and Twisted Storytelling – The manuscript within the book is deeply disturbing, yet it’s impossible to look away. It’s uncomfortable, but in a way that keeps you hooked.
❓ Mind-Blowing Ending – The ending sparks debate: Who is telling the truth? Who is manipulating whom? It’s the kind of book that stays with you long after you’ve finished.
What Didn’t Work for Me
😨 Extremely Dark Themes – If you’re sensitive to disturbing content, this book might be too much. Some scenes are truly unsettling.
💔 Characters You Can’t Fully Trust – Every character has flaws, and their morality is questionable. If you prefer likable protagonists, this might be frustrating.
Final Thoughts
If you love psychological thrillers with unreliable narrators, Verity is a must-read. It’s creepy, shocking, and completely different from Hoover’s usual work. While it’s not for the faint of heart, it’s perfect for those who love a book that leaves them questioning everything.
